Habitat
Blackwood is a fast growing, short lived wattle commonly found in wet forests and swampy
areas from sea level to 1000m in elevation. In wet eucalypt forest it is commonly an
understorey species.
Timber
This hardwood species varies in colour from golden brown to dark brown with reddish tint,
sometimes with black streaks. Sapwood is straw colour. The grain is mainly straight
sometimes wavy aka Fiddleback figure with an even and medium texture. It is a striking and
valuable timber with a natural lustre.
